Updates on Japan Earthquake
In the previous post, I forgot to mention about the explosion of a nuclear plant at Fukushima. The radiation from the exploded plant is affecting the surrounding area. The Japan govt increased the radius where people needed to evacuate, from 10km to 20km the day before yesterday. Yet, again yesterday, another nuclear plant exploded in the morning. People were asked to evacuate, while some stubborn residents stayed in there home (maybe they're just worried, not 'stubborn'). What was the reason? Experts said that the radiation wasn't too serious, but the govt wanted residents to evacuate just in case.
Aftershocks, mostly over M6+, were recorded numerous times ( I forgot to mention this too :D). As rescue teams plunged to help rescuers, most of what they found were just cold corpses. Again, another tsunami also affected Fukushima yesterday, with a height of 3m.
However, some Chinese (China citizens) have been celebrating the disaster that happened in Japan. Why were they celebrating? It all started because of World War II. Since the war, some Chinese have hated Japan just because of... the war. (and I really mean some)
Now,the Japan govt is planning to cut the electricity use in the country for 3 to 5 hours, starting from 6a.m. to 10p.m. in the different parts. This was done as the nuclear plants were closed due to the earthquake and safety.
Japan had its morning peak hours back yesterday morning in Tokyo, but however, the lifts and escalators were closed to save electricity. As there were lesser trains for more electricity to be saved, the trains were more crowded, but the Japanese just continued with it.
Note: I might have some errors in the information, so accept my apologies if there are any errors.

M8.9 Earthquake and Tsunami Hits Japan - Earthquake Largest in Japan's history
UPDATE(14/03/11): Japan upgraded the magnitude of the earthquake yesterday, from M8.9 to M9.0. Tokyo Disneyland is going to close for 10 days(started yesterday) to check the safety of the facilities.
Japan just went through a terrible ordeal yesterday...in fact, 2... a M8.9 earthquake, and a huge tsunami, which reached the height of 10m. The tsunami stretched for kilometres before backing into the sea again. Houses, cars and even buildings were swept away, with dead bodies flowing with the waves. The giant earthquake that hit Tokyo, the capital of Japan, was the largest recorded in Japan's history. The deadliest one was in Chile, with a magnitude of 9.5, and also came before a large tsunami. The tsunami itself took away 1 000+ lives. Now, the tsunami that came yesterday has spread and is spreading to other countries, such as Taiwan, US and the Philippines. The waves(tsunami) that hit Taiwan were smaller than feared. Another country, Easter Island, expected its waves to be at around 2m. They were expected to hit the island about an hour ago. Naruko Airport in Tokyo had its runways covered with the waves of tsunami, as people at the airport scrambled to higher ground. The good news was that some of the fights resumed after a few hours as the runways were dry and checked by then (Japan's efficiency is very high). Car parks at Tokyo Disneyland were also affected by the waves. People were evacuating from the tsunami all over the world, with residents in Tokyo evacuating on train tracks. At least one man was missing in the US when the tsunami arrived at America. Boats at the dock in Tokyo and California were swept away by the merciless waves or were capsized. One entire train was missing in Japan, while boats were also missing in the same country. Rescue troops from Japan whom were at Christchurch returned home to help. There was also another earthquake hitting a part of China lately, with Yunnan being the most affected area. America president Barrack Obama has said that if Japan needs any assistance, the country will be able to help.
Although Japan has gone through many earthquakes, this was the most serious one, more serious than you can ever imagine. As for now, what we can do is support the victims mentally as students. Let's hope that Tokyo will regain from its current plight as soon as possible.

North Korea might bomb South Korea if provoked for the second time
After bombing Yeonpyeong Island, N. Korea announced that they might bomb S. Korea for the 2nd (or even 3rd) time if they get provocated. This was said before the military exercise between S. Korea and America which was held from 28th Nov to 1st Dec. After the exercise, N. Korea said that they might bomb S. Korea again (but they didn't during the exercise) before the end of the year while U.S.A. had another military exercise with Japan shortly after the previous one to show the good relationship between the 2 countries. S. Korea had increased the security at Yeonpyeong Island ever since the bombing.

South Korean Attack north Korea
North Korean attack on an island populated by South Korean civilians near their disputed border said U.S. accusations and European governments, along with warnings that the exchange of artillery fire threat to regional peace.
South Korea scrambled fighter jets and artillery fire after he returned to North Korea provoked a more serious confrontation on the peninsula in recent decades by launching dozens of missiles in Yeonpyeong island, located near the border of both countries on the west coast of the peninsula. The bombing killed two South Korean soldiers and wounded at least 14.
"The United States strongly condemns this attack and calls on North Korea to halt its belligerent action," said the White House today in a statement. The U.S., which stations about 25,000 troops in South Korea is in contact with the government in Seoul, the statement said.
Tensions with North Korea have increased over the last year after the sinking of a warship South Korea, the Cheonan, in March that killed 46 sailors. President Barack Obama dispatched his special envoy, Stephen Bosworth, to Asia this week after reports of a U.S. scientist North Korea had revealed a new uranium enrichment plant.
North Korea began exchanging gunfire with South Korea, Bosworth told reporters in Beijing at a press conference after meeting with Chinese officials. U.S. and China share the view that "this conflict is very undesirable," and agreed that all parties must exercise restraint, "said Bosworth.
Bosworth said that his talks with China on North Korea's revelations about uranium enrichment "very useful", and included a "broad exchange of views." U.S. and China have agreed to continue coordination and consultation on the issue of uranium enrichment, he said.
North Korea is seeking concessions from countries that oppose its nuclear program, said Jan Techau, an analyst at the Defense College of NATO in Rome.
"The North Koreans are always trying to blackmail the rest of the world," Techau said in a telephone interview. "A few years ago were now firing missiles and firing missiles."
China expressed "concern" about the bombing of North Korea.
"We hope that the parties do more to contribute to peace and stability on the Korean peninsula," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei told reporters in Beijing. Reports on the new plant in North Korea's uranium enrichment underscores the need for disarmament talks, said Hong.
China's role will be crucial to mitigate the conflict, said Shada Islam, an Asia expert at the Brussels-based European Policy Centre.
"This will require China's diplomacy, which is the only country to have any influence on North Korea," Islam said in a telephone interview.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Kingdom William Hague said it "strongly condemns" the attack North Korea. German Foreign Minister, Guido Westerwelle, said the "military provocation endangering peace in the region."
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia expressed "deep concern" over the exchange of artillery. "Russia resolutely condemns any use of force between states and the product of the position that all existing disputes should be resolved exclusively by political and diplomatic means," the ministry said on its website.
Russia, which shares a border with North Korea, called for restraint on both sides, the statement said.
Taiwan urges North Korea and South to the restraint in order to maintain peace and stability on the Korean peninsula, Johnny Chiang, spokesman for the island of Staff, told a news conference broadcast on local television.
"Evil will probably continue for at least a few days," said Kenneth Quinones, former director of the U.S. State Department of North Korean affairs professor at Akita International University in Japan, in an interview. "I expect that some measures of

My Story
Lyo (pronounced as "Leo"), the "Lion of the Youth Olympics", is a lion cub with a mane as fiery as his passion for life. Full of youthful energy, Lyo is always on the go, exploring and discovering new things and playing sports.
His favourite sport is basketball and he dreams of someday representing Singapore in international basketball tournaments.
Growing up in Singapore, the City-in-a-Garden, Lyo is no stranger to people. He enjoys making friends from all over the world and learning about their different cultures. He is fun-loving and wants to inspire youths to keep fit and enjoy sports.
Quick Facts
Star Sign: Leo
Dream: To win a gold medal in an international basketball championship.
Personal Motto: "Never say never"
Favourite Food: Chilli Crabs and Chicken Rice with lots of chilli!
Hobbies: Jamming on his guitar, exploring and discovering new things, and playing sports, especially basketball.
Symbolism
Legend tells us that a prince visited a lovely tropical island a long, long time ago. Upon landing, he spotted a beautiful lion, and so named the island 'Singapura', which means 'Lion City'. Today, that island has grown into the city-state of Singapore, whose 5 million people have adopted the Lion as their national symbol.
Fun Stuff
Lyo's mane resembles the Flame of Passion of the Spirit of Youth, the emblem of the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games. It also calls to mind the Singapore 2010 tagline 'Blazing the Trail'. His paw is shaped like Singapore island.

My Story
Merly got her name from "mer" (meaning the sea) and "l y" for liveliness and youthfulness. She is a merlion cub who loves exploring the seas surrounding Singapore, and beyond. Although merlions are omnivorous by nature, Merly sticks to a vegetarian diet out of a deep respect for all living creatures.
Merly is friendly and a great listener – when she becomes your friend, she is your friend for life! Always ready to join a good cause, Merly is especially passionate about protecting our environment (sadly, many of her friends have become ill as their homes have been polluted) Merly believes that every one of us can help create a sustainable future and works hard to spread that message.
Her dream is to become an environmental scientist one day, so that she can find more ways to help people live in harmony with Nature.
Quick Facts
Star Sign: Aquarius
Dream: To become an environmental scientist.
Personal Motto: "You can achieve anything if you pour your heart into it!"
Favourite Food: Ice Kachang (a Singaporean dessert of shaved ice drenched in colourful syrup).

Symbolism
The merlion is a mythical sea creature that is part lion and part fish. It is inspired by Singaporean folklore and Singapore’s fishing village origins.
